Vitiligo DiseaseVitiligo is a disease, but it is not dangerous for human life! This skin disease has been observed for thousands of years, all across the world. It is a common distortion and anyone, male or female, irrespective of skin color or ethnic origin can develop this skin condition. There is no significant difference in its incidence... Approximately 1 out of every 100 people suffers from this disorder.The only consistency which has been observed in vitiligo disease is the white patches which are caused due to the loss of pigment cells in the epidermis. These White patches can appear on any part of the skin but the most common areas where the white patches normally appear are around the neck, hands, feet and ears. These white patches are usually symmetrical but they may vary from lighter tan to complete loss of pigmentation. According to a research, Vitiligo affects at least 1% to 2% of the population and can occur in all the races. In some countries such as India, Vitiligo affects up to 8% of the population. Some of the doctors say that Vitiligo is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The majority of people suffering from Vitiligo are teenagers to 30 years of age. Vitiligo is easily noticeable especially in the people with dark complexion. |
